First project: KinectVision

Bring Kinect v2 back to Linux.

KinectVision is a local Linux runtime for Kinect v2, starting with a validated KinectVoice global microphone path for private alpha testers.

Private alpha warning: this package is for controlled testing. It is not production software and should not be installed into Orion until reviewed.

Global microphone

Creates a selectable Linux source backed by KinectVoice live processing, input gain, and first-pass beamforming.

Reversible controls

Default microphone and persistence behavior are explicit commands with documented rollback.

Local first

Plain runtime package, local Kinect v2 hardware, and no cloud or Orion dependency in this alpha.

Behind the scenes

Alpha work stays local and reviewable.

The current site, runtime package, and validation notes are prepared for private alpha testing before any Orion integration.

What works now

  • KinectVoice Beamformed Mic creation
  • live KinectVoice processing
  • direct recording from the virtual mic
  • first-run voice confirmation
  • default mic set and restore
  • persistence with or without default behavior
  • clean disable and uninstall paths
  • private alpha tester docs
